The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) on Nov. 2 is one of Mexico’s most important holidays, a day when family and friends gather in remembrance of deceased loved ones. Oaxaca’s celebrations are legendary, with parades, parties, themed decorations, and festive foods in abundance. We will participate in a genuine Zapoteca home Celebration Dia de Muertos where we will share, food, mezcal, music and hundreds of years’ tradition and rituals.
This alluring experience begins in Cancun International Airport where as soon as we arrive, we will be boarding Tren Maya to Bacalar blue crystal waters enjoying the endless Caribbean sand. From there will be jumping in to this brand-new Maya train going South to Calakmul, which is one of the least accessible archaeological sites in Mexico, deep in the untamed Jungles of central Campeche & the Calakmul biosphere reserve, where we will get to explore their Maya territory, their unique ancient constructions where we will learn about this vibrant civilization. Our last train Maya destiny will be to Palenque, where it contains some of the finest architecture, sculptures, roof combs, and bas-relief carvings produced by this ancient tribe. Home of the Red Queen, the most celebrated woman of that era. Prior to our flight back to Tijuana after riding this magnificent Maya train for 551 km of their south route.
