• Maya Train: The Mayan Train project (Tsíimin K'áak, in the Mayan language) will be one of the most important infrastructure works in the history of Mexico's rail network, and a unique opportunity to boost economic growth in the southeast region by creating jobs and support for local manufacturing, while preserving natural areas, ecosystems and the environment, promoting tourism and safeguarding local indigenous cultures.
• Bacalar: whose name in Mayan means “city where the sky was born” or “place surrounded by reeds,” is catching on fast. The town was named one of Mexico’s “Pueblos Mágicos” (“Magical Towns”) in 2006, an acknowledgment of its cultural and historical significance, as well as its attractiveness as a destination for travelers.
• Bacalar: The Bacalar Lagoon, or Laguna Bacalar (or Lake Bacalar) is a spectacular lake on the Mexican Caribbean coast. Bacalar is situated between Sian Ka’an and Chetumal in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
• Calakmul Biosphere: Encompassing some 1.8 million acres along the Guatemalan border, Calakmul was declared a protected biosphere reserve in 1989 and is the largest of its kind in Mexico (Sian Ka'an in Quintana Roo is second with 1.3 million acres). All kinds of flora and fauna thrive here, including wildcats, spider and howler monkeys, hundreds of exotic birds, orchid varieties, butterflies, and reptiles. There's no shortage of insects, either, so don't forget the bug repellent.
• Calakmul: Name means “two towering mounds” in the Yucatec Maya language, after its two largest pyramids: structures I and II. But the city also had other names in the past, such as Kan, meaning “serpent”, or Ux te tuun, meaning “three stones”
• Calakmul: One of the least accessible archaeological sites in Mexico, deep in the untamed Jungles of central Campeche & the Calakmul biosphere reserve
• Palenque: Is situated between some of Mexico’s principal tourist areas: Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las Casas and Cancun. It’s about an hour and half by road from the city of Villahermosa, which is also the nearest airport. It is too far for a day trip from either Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las Casas or Cancun, as your day will be taken up with traveling there and back and, in any event, it’s far better to stay at one of the nearby hotels and spend an entire day here: the site is extensive, and the trip is worth it.
• Palenque: Home to one of the best Mayan cities in the country, dozens of thundering waterfalls, and verdant jungles filled with creatures of all shapes and sizes, Palenque Chiapas is an iconic destination in Mexico.
• Agua Azul: Is a breathtaking sight, with its powerful and dazzling white waterfalls thundering into turquoise (outside rainy season) pools surrounded by verdant jungle. The temptation to swim is great, but take extreme care, as people do drown here. The current is deceptively fast, the power of the falls obvious, and there are many submerged hazards like rocks and dead trees.
• Misol Ha: Waterfall is located in Palenque National Park. This waterfall is one of the most stunning sights you will ever see. The height reaches up to 35 meters (115 ft) and then falls into a circular pool surrounded by tropical vegetation. The sounds of water drops falling onto rocks below is absolutely incredible.
• Hotel Las Nubes in Bacalar: Located a mere 20 minutes' walk from Public Pier, Aknakam Hotel Boutique Bacalar is about a 5-minute walk from Parroquia de San Joaquin Church.
• Hotel Tren Maya Calakmul: On this journey, six Tren Maya hotels will be strategically built to offer a unique experience for travelers looking to explore. The Hotel Tren Maya Calakmul, will be located in segment 7 of the Tren Maya. Designed for history enthusiasts, this hotel will offer the opportunity to explore the ancient Mayan city of Calakmul, immersing oneself in its archaeological splendor.
• Hotel Tren Maya Palenque: In segment 1 of the Tren Maya, in the state of Chiapas, emerges the Hotel Tren Maya Palenque. With a land area of 6.25 hectares and an estimated cost of $966 million pesos, this hotel will feature 160 rooms and is located just 1 mile (1.6 km) from the most important archaeological zone in southern Mexico.
